At 23, Sid (Siddarth) Mahant came to America with $850, the shirt on his back, and an unshakeable belief in the American Dream - that anyone, from anywhere, can build a life through hard work and determination.
He proved it the hard way.
Sid became a legal United States citizen. Sid worked whatever jobs he could find: janitor, convenience store manager, nursing assistant, salesman, small restaurant owner, truck driver. The road wasn't smooth. He faced frustration, discrimination, and setbacks that would have broken most people, including losing his restaurant to a fire. But Sid never quit. Inspired by his lifelong role model, Abraham Lincoln, whom he considers America's greatest leader - he pressed on.
In 2014, Sid, his wife and two sons moved to Avon. The boys attended Avon schools, and now attend IUPUI. It was here that the dream finally took root. What started as a small mobile truck repair shop has grown into a thriving trucking company that now employs more than 400 Hoosiers. Sid didn't just build a business, he built a life, a community, and a future.
At home, he cherishes every moment with his family, including Brembo, their beloved dog, whom Sid proudly calls his youngest son.
Sid Mahant is not a career politician. He has never taken a dime from a PAC. He answers to the people of District 40 — because he is one of them.
"I'm not running for a title or a career. I'm running to get things done and keep the American Dream alive."
